Vote for Beach Hut of the Year

Did you know there are over 20,000 registered beach huts in the UK? Wow! The hunt is now on to find the best beach hut. There really are some amazing ones about. Here are a few photos of some of the local ones.

Dr Kathryn Ferry is one of the UK's leading experts on beach huts and has written several books including ' Sheds on the Seashore'. She will be involved in judging the competition.

Beach huts originated from bathing machines which appeared from the 1730s onwards. In fact 'The One Show' recently had a feature about an original restored bathing machine. They're also doing other features about old fashioned holidays we used to take this week. Tonight they spoke with Johnny Ball who remembered his days working at Butlins in the 1950s/60s.

  2. There is a lady that has a lovely one in Lyme Regis, as you walk along to the Cobb, it's fitted out in 1950's style with a drop down kitchen cabinet, I was too shy to ask for a pic, as I wanted to blog it!

  3. Hi

I love nosing at peoples beach huts especially the colourful ones at Southwold!

Just a by the by have you seen the Edenbridge & Oxted Show at the end of August is having a vintage/collectors area this year and stalls looked fairly reasonable. Saw it earlier and thought of you. I use to live near there and it is a very well attended agricultural type show.
